At previous marathons, ASICS UK had been using paper forms to capture runners information and then manually transcribed the data after the event. The common challenges were the hours spent transcribing the data; it was taking 2-3 weeks before entering the data into their marketing platform, and data accuracy when transcribing handwriting. As a forward thinking brand, ASICS turned to Akkroo to bring their methods of collecting customer data and brand interaction bang up-to-date.

Being able to use Akkroo at events like this year’s marathon is proving to be a substantial improvement on how we’ve done data capture in the past.

Akkroo worked with the ASICS events team to set up a data capture form, allowing staff to capture runner information online or offline at the event, on their iPads. Alongside traditional data capture, ASICS objective was to boost real-time interactions with runners visiting their stand. Utilising the Akkroo app’s camera feature, staff took a photo of each runner when collecting their information. Once the photo was taken and the form was completed, the trigger email feature was used to send an automatic thank you message to the runner, incorporating a pre-prepared tweet with their photo, encouraging them to enter a competition and tweet the ASICS campaign, using the hashtag #wantitmore.

We can interact with the attendees instantly using the real-time email which is perfect for linking in with our social media campaigns. We exceeded our targets by around 30%.

Post-event, the ASICS marketing team were able to act on their data immediately and export it for use in their marketing campaigns.
